I am an Edinburgh based artist primarily known for painting and printmaking in an abstract style. With a background in design, I hold a BA honours degree in Printed Textiles and a Dip BI in Botanical Illustration.
My surroundings, experiences, and connections to the natural world heavily influence my work. I like to blur the lines between reality and imagination creating pieces that invite viewers to immerse themselves in the intricate details and explore their own thoughts.
My work evolves through a process of improvisation and experimentation. I never really know what the result will be, and that is what makes it exciting for me. I like to build up layers of paint and then scrape a little away, constantly transforming my colours, shapes, and textures. Sometimes I use unconventional tools to scratch and create interesting marks on the canvas. I also incorporate monotype techniques into my paintings, which adds another layer of depth and complexity.
I work with a wide variety of different media, but lately, I have been homing in on my skills with oil, watercolour, and mixed media drawing materials. My focus is to create work that captures the things I find truly real and beautiful in the world, but also, to relate to issues that I think are important in an age of mass consumerism and technology.
